The exhibition Pompeis Panem Gustas / Pompeii at Table in Hässleholm Kulturhus 13 September 2008 – 18 January 2009 highlights the importance of food in Pompeii. Frescos, pots, dishes and silver bowls illustrate the range of fruit and vegetables at markets, how dishes were cooked in simple bars, and how guests reclining on sofas enjoyed a feast in a wealthy Roman home. Some of the objects have recently been excavated and have never before been shown to the public.
Graffiti, murals and a large number of inscriptions, together with well-preserved impressions left by humans and animals surprised by death, tell of an everyday life filled with pleasure and food, company and family life. Pompeis Panem Gustas / Pompeii at Table gives a unique idea of daily life in one of the best-preserved and best-excavated ancient cities.
